A Distinguished Lineage

The Dungeons and Dragons theme hails from a long history of tradition. Starting with TSR's original pen and paper (P&P) games, SSI's Gold Box games, and proceeding through Black Isle's latest batch of AD&D (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons) games (Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, and of course, Baldur's Gate II), D&D has a heritage unmatched in the history of entertainment. With more detail, depth, and personality than any other fictional universe, D&D provides for unparalleled versatility in various forms.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the latest of these incarnations. Using the now familiar Infinity Engine, BioWare set out to create the largest, grandest RPG of all time. Set in the depths of Amn (more specifically, Athkatla: The City of Coin) BG2 sets the stage for adventure beyond comparison.

Previously, in the Baldur's Gate II Preview, I discussed many of the differences between Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. To re-iterate that here would be to beat a dead horse; thus, it would benefit you, if you're considering purchasing this game, to read the preview as well. Here in the review, though, I'll set out to discuss some of the major features I've observed in the game, especially those which have been added since the preview.
