Patience, Grasshopper

Who ever said that there are only three environments in which a PC game must take place? No one? Then why are the only PC titles on the shelves always set in a medieval, modern warfare, or sci-fi starship environments while console games get all the creative environments? Well, finally a title arrived that is set in a more unusual environment: mythical Japan.

But what about the game itself? Surely, it's just a meager Diablo II clone trying to cash in on the genre, right? The only advice I can give to those thinking of the game in that sense is to, as the title of this page suggests, have patience. While both games are ARPGs and have skill trees, the similarities stop there. The actual gameplay in Throne of Darkness is unlike any ARPG or Diablo clone I've ever seen. Whether or not this makes it better or not will be debated in the next few pages, but it's certainly not a mere clone.

One final word of advice before proceeding to the real debate is that, unlike Diablo II which really focuses on the muliplayer action on Battle.net, Throne focuses more on making a "complete" feeling single player experience. I suggest that if you're looking for an ARPG with excellent multiplayer abilities, stick with Diablo II. On the other hand if you're big into single player RPGs and don't mind not having the best multiplayer experience, than ToD is a far better designed game. With that said, let's move onto some of the features and advantages in the game.
